Mika Stromberg

hockey cardMika Stromberg

Retired player.

Autographed card purchased at a card shop on September 21, 2012.

Mika Stromberg was drafted in the 11th round by the Quebec Nordiques in 1990. He never played in the NHL, but he did have an impressive professional career, playing 21 seasons in Europe (1989-2010).

What perplexes me about this card is that it came out in 1994-95. It is unlikely that Stromberg would still have been considered an NHL prospect at that point. And yet, Signature Rookies had Stromberg sign 7,750 of these in blue Sharpie marker to randomly put into packs.

Vadim Sharifijanov

hockey cardVadim Sharifijanov

Retired player.

Autographed card purchased at a card shop on September 21, 2012.

Vadim Sharifijanov was the first round pick (25th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Despite going so high in the draft, the card company still misspelled his name "SHARIFJANOV," forgetting the second "i."

Sharifijanov played 92 games in the NHL between the Devils and the Vancouver Canucks. Most of his North American career was spent in the minors. In 2000, he returned to Europe and played mostly in Russia until 2009.

This card was made by a company called Signature Rookies. It is signed in dark blue marker, which you don't see too often.

hockey cardMike Peluso

Retired player.

Autographed card purchased at a card shop on September 21, 2012.

Mike Peluso played 8 seasons in the NHL. He broke into the league with the Chicago Blackhawks, and also played for the Ottawa Senators, New Jersey Devils, St. Louis Blues and Calgary Flames.

Like the Dan Vincelette card I showed off yesterday, this card of Peluso is also signed in blue Sharpie marker.

I recently learned that Peluso does sign autographs through the mail. So I plan on writing to him soon and getting a few of his NHL cards signed.

Dan Vincelette

hockey cardDan Vincelette

Retired player.

Autographed card purchased at a card shop on September 21, 2012.

Dan Vincelette was a regular for the Chicago Blackhaws in 1987-88 and 1988-89. He was traded to the Quebec Nordiques in 1990 in the deal that brought Michel Goulet to the 'Hawks.

This 1989-90 ProCards issue shows Vincelette as a member of the Indianapolis Ice in the "old" IHL. It is neatly signed in blue Sharpie marker. Vincelette had a few team-issue cards picturing him as a Blackhawks player. One day, I'd like to get those signed via TTM.

Show-and-Tell: 1990-91 O-Pee-Chee Premier

One of my first projects since launching this blog in 2006 was to try and get every card from the 1990-91 O-Pee-Chee Premier set autographed. So far, I have 52 of the 131 possible cards signed. (If all the images do not load, try clicking refresh/reload on your web browser).

I still have a long way to go in completing this autograph project. Several of the former players I need signatures from are working for NHL teams as coaches or in the front office.
