Signed insert card purchased at a card shop on September 21, 2012.
Hockey prospect sets from the mid-1990s would include everyone and anyone they could think of. Signature Rookies really scraped the bottom of the barrel with their 1995-96 Draft set. Kevin Riel was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in 1991--in the 11th round!
NO ONE drafted in the 11th round (231st overall) would ever really be considered an NHL prospect, but the Signature Rookies still had Riehl sign 4,500 cards so they could be inserted into packs. Keep in mind that he was drafted FOUR YEARS PRIOR and most recently played in the ECHL, making him two steps removed from the NHL. In fact, by the time this card came out, Riehl was playing in Europe. He actually had a pretty long professional career (13 years) but never played in the NHL.
