Vadim Sharifijanov

hockey cardVadim Sharifijanov

Retired player.

Autographed card purchased at a card shop on September 21, 2012.

Vadim Sharifijanov was the first round pick (25th overall) of the New Jersey Devils in the 1994 NHL Entry Draft. Despite going so high in the draft, the card company still misspelled his name "SHARIFJANOV," forgetting the second "i."

Sharifijanov played 92 games in the NHL between the Devils and the Vancouver Canucks. Most of his North American career was spent in the minors. In 2000, he returned to Europe and played mostly in Russia until 2009.

This card was made by a company called Signature Rookies. It is signed in dark blue marker, which you don't see too often.

Ahhh that card....That is the first autograph I ever bought. I paid 5 bucks for it, but that was back when he was a legit prospect instead of a legit bust....

Five bucks back then could go a long way in buying many other cards. It's part of the gamble we take as collectors. I have like 50 Karyl Dykhuis RCs stashed somewhere...
