Bob McGill

hockey card
Bob McGill

Retired player.

Autograph purchased at a card shop in September 2012.

Bob McGill broke into the NHL in 1981-82 with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He played in the NHL until the 1993-94 season, retiring as a member of the Hartford Whalers. He also played for the Chicago Blackhawks, San Jose Sharks, Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders.

In 1994-95, McGill was the color commentator for the minor-league Chicago Wolves. He had the job the next season too, but came out of retirement and played 8 games for the Wolves before hanging up his skates for good. Now he works as a radio color commentator for the Toronto Marlies.

I found this photo at a card shop for $5, and there was no way I could pass it up. It shows McGill as an inaugural member of the San Jose Sharks, was taken at old Chicago Stadium and is signed in blue Sharpie marker.
