FAILURE - Ken Dryden

Ken Dryden

Retired player. Elected into the Hall of Fame in 1983.

Fan letter sent: January 12, 2009.

Unsigned card received: February 6, 2009.

Man, this sucks. I heard that Mr. Dryden will sign one autograph request per person. So I sent him a short, polite letter along with a 1983 Hockey Hall of Fame card. Today, I got an envelope that was, under the return address, stamped "Hon. Ken Dryden". Excitedly, I carefully opened the envelope...to find an unsigned card.

I am not sure why Mr. Dryden did not sign the card. Maybe it's because he does not like the painted picture of him on the card. Or maybe it is because as an American I can't vote for him. Who knows.

Dryden is famous for not signing. Even as an MP he says no to signing almost as a rule.

One of those players who's ego and arrogant real life personna was not readily apparent until post-career, and one that I wish I'd never known about.

I don't want real life from my athletic heroes.

next time ask him to personalize it. I am pretty sure that would do the trick.
